Titika Røtkjær is a visual artist from Copenhagen in Denmark. She works with self-portraits, double-exposure techniques and other digital effects to portray visual metaphors of the duality of self. Her narratives are often based on dreams and stories but also on her experiences of depression and subsequently recovering from a serious illness; both of which brought her back into photography.
Titika plays with the concepts of light and dark in her photography, using only high-contrast monochrome. She also uses it in how she depicts herself in her images; appearing as opaque and in black clothes where she inhabits the real world, and in white clothes with an ethereal translucency to represent her spiritual and positive side.
